BioBootCamp
To train physicists in the complicated experimental procedures of life science research, we run a week-long training camp each January. In the spirit of Studio Physics, the Boot Camp contains lecture and hands-on training where students directly use the lessons from the lectures. Powerpoints available upon request. Topics include:
Monday: Keeping a Notebook, Laboratory Math and Units, Making Buffers, pHing buffers.
Working with bacteria, Sterile Technique, Transforming Bacteria
Tuesday: Microtubules, Motors, MAPs
Microscopy
Wednesday: Protein Purification
Kinesin-1 and MAP65
Thursday: Biochemical Assays: SDS-Page gel.
Microscopy Assays: Gliding Assays and Bundling Assays.
Friday: Data Analysis of Images with ImageJ, Analyzing gels, Analyzing Images, Analyzing Movies
Every year, we make t-shirts for the groups of students in the camp.
